Following Andor at Lucasfilm’s Star Wars Celebration Studio Showcase, the cast and creator of The Acolyte took the stage to provide updates on the series’ production and give fans a sneak peek into what’s to come in the world of the High Republic. Before delving into the ins and outs of the series, which is expected to release in 2024, President of Lucasfilm Kathleen Kennedy made sure to note that, to date, she’s seen the first four episodes of the series, and they “blew [her] away.”

Series creator and director Leslye Headland (creator of Russian Doll) took to the stage first to discuss the show’s creation, explaining how she pitched it as “Frozen meets Kill Bill, but from the bad guys’ perspective.” The series takes place between the High Republic Era and that of the Star Wars Prequel Trilogy but remains closer to the High Republic in terms of the powers at play in the world. This was made clearer during an exclusive teaser for the series shown to fans in London, which featured shots of a Jedi Temple, Carrie-Anne Moss’ Jedi character going up against Amandla Stenberg in a martial-arts-heavy battle, and (to a strong reaction from the crowd) a shot of numerous Jedi igniting their lightsabers simultaneously.

The Acolyte stars Amandla Stenberg (Bodies Bodies Bodies), Lee Jung-jae (Squid Game), Jodie Turner-Smith (Queen & Slim), Manny Jacinto (The Good Place), Dafne Keen (Logan), Rebecca Henderson (Russian Doll), Carrie-Anne Moss (The Matrix), Dean-Charles Chapman, Charlie Barnett, Margarita Levieva, and Joonas Suotomo. During the panel, we also learned that Jung-jae will play a Jedi Master, and Joonas Suotomo returns to the franchise as a new Wookie, Jedi Master Kel Naka.

Update: As of April 8, it was announced that Rebecca Henderson would play Vernestra Rwoh, a character who has appeared in previous High Republic projects. This is the first confirmed High Republic character to make the transition into live-action.

The Acolyte is created and directed by Leslye Headland and will hit Disney+ next year.
