DC’s search for the next Superman is over — David Corenswet has been cast in the leading role in Superman: Legacy alongside Rachel Brosnahan, cast as Clark Kent and Lois Lane, respectively.

This news comes after an extensive search, which culminated in a set of screen tests over the last few weeks, which found three actors testing for the Man of Steel, and three actors testing for Lois Lane. Though Corenswet and Brosnahan were reportedly never paired together during said tests, it seems that the DC and Warner leadership was impressed by the two on their own — enough to give them the roles.

Superman: Legacy, tentatively slated to release on July 11, 2025, is set to be the next film directed by James Gunn (the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise), who turned in a finished draft of the film’s script before the WGA Strike began. The film was announced earlier this year as the first film in DC Studios’ revamped slate, one that will start a new DC universe (mostly) from scratch, with titles like The Batman and Joker being treated as Elseworlds events.

Production on Legacy is expected to begin next January, though possible delays from WGA and SAG-Aftra strikes may impact the production.

David Corenswet, known for his roles in Netflix’s The Politician and Hollywood, along with his role in last year’s Pearl, is playing Clark Kent, known (in secret) by most as Superman. It’s unknown how many movies Corenswet, a fan-favorite since the casting process began, signed on for, but it’s safe to assume that he’ll be the defining Superman of this decade, if not the 2030s as well. David Corenswet is repped by CAA.

Rachel Brosnahan, our new Lois Lane, is coming off the final season of Amazon Prime’s The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, in which she played Miriam Maisel for five seasons, winning an Emmy for the role. Though fans were quick to err on the side of caution when it came to Brosnahan’s chances for the role, it’s been reported multiple times that she had the strongest audition out of any contender. Rachel Brosnahan is repped by CAA.

Superman: Legacy is set to fly into theaters on July 11, 2025.
